“Gimme More” – Written during Britney's second pregnancy. It was first released in Australia on October 6, 2007. It performed well, reaching the top ten on many international charts. "Gimme More" topped Billboard's Canadian chart, and reached number three on the US Billboard Hot 100, making it Spears' highest-peaking single in the United States since her 1999 number-one debut, "...Baby One More Time". It also peaked at number three in Australia and the United Kingdom. In Australia and the US, the single was certified platinum.
A very popular club hit that was her biggest hit since "Oops... I Did It Again." The first three words of the song says it all "It's Britney, bitch!" As we've never heard her say that before in a song. Despite her not so good 2007 VMA performance of "Gimme More" while Britney looked spaced off and scared, and got her heels broken, her video - which has a stripper theme into it - got a lot of mixed reviews. Britney at first sits at a bar with friends, watching, and laughing with them. Then you find most of the video where she dances around a pole and a couple of mirrors wearing net fish. At one point she takes her top off and covers her breasts with it while still dancing around the pole.

"Piece Of Me" - Second single from Blackout. The song was written by Christian Karlsson, Pontus Winnberg, and Klas Åhlund, and produced by Bloodshy & Avant.
It was a major worldwide hit, peaking inside the top ten in most countries, and reaching number one in Ireland. It was also successful in clubs, reaching number one in various Dance Club Play charts, including those in the United States and Australia. It was also one of her most successful singles in the United Kingdom, peaking at number two. The song is ranked at #15 on The Rolling Stones list of The 100 Best Songs of 2007. She has truly been Miss American Dream since she was 17. This paparazzi slamming song has been a favorite amongst Britney fans. "I'm Mrs. oh my God that Britney's shameless! You want a piece of me?" has been through every Britney fans head since Blackout came out. The song's music video also won her three Video Music Awards. Her first time winning at the awards show since she blasted onto the scene at 17. The video much better than Gimme More, had Britney with friends, dancing in a bathroom, and tabloid magazines all over. Plus her outfit looked much better and Britney was very toned and looked very pretty.

"Radar" - Written by Christian Karlsson, Pontus Winnberg, Henrik Jonback, Balewa Muhammad, Candice Nelson, Ezekiel "Zeke" Lewis, and Patrick Smith and was produced by The Clutch and Bloodshy & Avant who happened to produce two of her songs on 'In the Zone' including her Grammy winning hit "Toxic" were at it again. On June 11, 2008, Jive Records announced that the release of "Radar" as a single had been scrapped yet it has been playing on Australian, New Zealand, Irish and British radio stations and being included in their playlists and proving popular in their request shows. This Toxic-esque song has lyrics that hit the spot. "Confidence is a must, cockiness is a plus. Edginess is a rush, edges I like 'em rough." Goes on saying "Think I can handle that, animal in the sack." Back to some old musical roots from 2004... and telling the guy he's on her radar.

"Break The Ice" - Third single from Blackout . Written by Nate "Danja" Hills, Marcella "Ms. Lago" Araica, Keri Hilson and James Washington, it was produced by Danja for Spears' fifth studio album, Blackout. The song hit #1 on Billboard's Dance Club Play Charts and was on the chart for weeks. It also hit the top spot in Poland and Australia. The video was very popular overseas mostly. It reached #1 on Latin American MTV show and on Asia's Top 20 Chart. It also hit #3 on the European Top 20. The video, far different than what any had ever expected Britney to do, got major mixed reviews. Britney was an anime character fighting off her demons like she was a superhero. Pretty much like her 2007 lifestyle where she was trying to fight herself and the paparazzi.

"Heaven On Earth" - Written by Nick Huntington, Michael McGroarty, Nicole Morier and produced by Freescha, Kara DioGuardi. A very dancy, 80s retro song. Very different from her past music. The song lyrics "I've waited all my life for you..." Britney is telling the guy he's heaven on earth. He's perfect in every way from his hair to his skin. A favorite among Britney fans. Kara Dioguardi helped produce this dance hit. She was also the one who co-wrote "Brave New Girl" from In The Zone.

"Get Naked (I Got A Plan)" - Written by Ellis, Araica, Hills, Nigel Talley, Washington and produced by Danja. Like the songs he's written for Britney, they've had a dance club feel. This song is no exception. While it has gotten mixed reviews from Britney fans, it still stands out. Danja does vocals during the song making it sound more interesting, more of an urban feel.

"Freakshow" - Written by Britney, Lewis, Smith, Karlsson, Winnberg, Asher and produced by Bloodshy & Avant and The Clutch. A feel good dance-club song. This song stands out. Two of the other co-writers also co-wrote "Showdown" and "Toxic" from "In the Zone." The lyrics say it all: "10PM to 4 and I came to hit the floor," as Britney during the beginning of the song talks really fast, or if you want to consider... rapping.

"Toy Soldier" - Written by Sean Garrett, Karlsson, Winnberg, Magnus Wallbert and produced by Bloodshy & Avant and Sean "The Pen" Garrett. A favorite for almost every Britney fan. While Britney's voice is highly synthesized, this one is also a club winner. "It's time I need a soldier, a really better soldier. To know how to take, take care of me. I'm so damn glad that's over." This song was quite popular on TV shows such as Ellen, who got up danced to the song during one of her shows! It also played on MTV's dance show America's Best Dance Crew where my personal favorite, Fanny Pak, danced to the song and got great reviews from the judges.

"Hot As Ice" - Written by Hills, Araica, and Produced by Danja. Co-written by popular hip-hop artist and collaborator T-Pain. This up-tempo, bubble-gum pop song is one to just make you sing at the top of your lungs and dance where everyone is watching."I'm just the girl with the ability to drive a man crazy. Make him call me mama, make him my new baby." She goes on saying "Living legend, you can look but don't touch. Cause I'm cold as fire, baby, hot as ice. If you've ever been to heaven this is twice as nice." Definitely a song to expect out of Danja and T-Pain when they work on the same song.

"Ooh Ooh Baby" - Written by Britney, Farid Nassar, DioGuardi, Erick Coomes and Produced by Fredwreck and Kara DioGuardi. This song makes you go back to "In the Zone." The sultry, sexy, naughty lyrics where Britney is telling the guy to "Touch me and I come alive. I can feel you on my lips, I can feel you deep inside." Something a little different than "Brave New Girl" and "Heaven On Earth," but still a reminder of the sultry lyrics that "In the Zone" has. A song that'll definitely get you in the mood.

"Perfect Lover" - Written by Araica, Hills, Hilson, Washington and Produced by Danja. Danja speaks out in the beginning saying "Are we ready?" As the chorus chimes in Britney singing "You're the perfect lover, I'm in love with all the things you do. So seductive when you touch me, I can't get enough of you. You're the best baby, you got me obsessed. And I can't catch my breath, baby I must confess you got me high." Like in a few other songs Britney has done before from previous albums, you can slightly hear Britney panting and moaning through the song. Telling her man that he's the perfect lover. This song is totally one of the best Blackout tracks.

"Why Should I Be Sad" - Written by Pharrell Williams and produced by The Neptunes. They worked with Britney on the past with hits such as "I'm a Slave 4 U" and "Boys". Controversy adds on whether or not it's about her ex-husband Kevin Federline. Neither one has said that it is or isn't, so all we can do it speculate. "Why should I be sad, heaven knows. From the stupid freaky things that you do." She goes on singing, "I sent you to Vegas with a pocket full of paper, and with no ultimatums on you. I thought what could separate us, but it only seemed like Vegas brought the playa out of you."

Fans Speak Out About Blackout!
1. What do you think of "Blackout" as a whole? Why do you like the album?
Blyth:
I love blackout. I think this CD is one of Britney's best when it comes to songs that people can dance to.
Chelle: I liked Blackout, because it had a lot of really catchy songs on it. It was one of her CD's where I didnt find hardly any tracks that I could have lived without. What made it a good CD, and one of Britney's best is it had a lot of upbeat tracks on it. It was very different from her previous CDs. It was more adult, and not just singing about cute boys
Joel (Team Britney Miami): I think that Blackout has given me the chance to just have fun and dance. All the songs can also help you in an intense workout. The album to me shares a more in your face Britney. I like Blackout because it really has shared a new sound to the music industry with songs like Toy Soldier, and also that 80's retro sound in Heaven on Earth.
Yousef (Candy-Store.org): It is so so so amazing, no words can describe it, album of the year, seriously. I consider Blackout to be my 2nd fav Britney album (after In The Zone). Every song on Blackout is worthy of being a single! I'm in love with every single song on there. Its a masterpiece.
2. What do you think of "Toy Soldier"? Do you like the song? If so, why do you like it?
Blyth:
Well, I think "Toy Soldier" is fun to dance to and it has a very catchy beat.
3.
What do you think of "Break The Ice"? Do you like it?
Chelle:
I loved Break the Ice, it is one of my favorite tracks since I heard the album the first time. I wasn't much for the video, yeah it was different but I prefer the real Britney in her videos. I love, love, LOVE the song itself though. It just puts me in a good mood whenever I hear it. What I like about the song is the beat, it just makes you want to dance. It interests me, because its a hot song and its great to dance to.
4. What do you think of the song "Piece Of Me"? What did you think of the video, the song as a whole, slamming the paparazzi?
Joel (Team Britney Miami): Well, "Piece of Me" is simply a bitch-slap to the paps and her relationship with them. I thought the video was great for what it's worth and has even won 3 moonmen. The song has a great beat, and displays Britney at her best in the entire album. I think the song is an instant classic. The paparazzi deserve all thats coming for them. They really wont stop their aggressive ways until someone gets seriously hurt. All anyone is really interested in, is simply Britney.
5. What do you think of "Radar"? Do you like the song?
Yousef (Candy-Store.org): Radar is my favorite song on Blackout, I get so hyper and crazy whenever it's brought up in a convo. The beat is sick! The vocals are so hot! It gets you moving, its just WOW. |
